Our History.

UnderLock has over 20 years of experience in pedestal paver systems.

In 2011, the first generation UnderLock system was developed utilizing porcelain tile. The supreme strength of porcelain tile along with high-tech composites created a self-supporting porcelain paver that could be safely placed on pedestals. This new creation had the center load strength equal to 2" pressed concrete, at a fraction of the thickness.  The composite also provided an" internal safety net", that held pavers together if one should happen to break.  Pressed concrete and natural stone pavers have been placed on pedestals for many decades and yet, if they should happen to break, the pieces will fall through.  From the beginning, UnderLock had created a much safer product.

Porcelain manufacturers were soon to develop thick porcelain technology and 2CM thick porcelains started to appear in the marketplace.  The new thick porcelain is indeed stronger than 2" pressed concrete, but had some unforeseen problems for pedestal installation.  With its unique position in the industry, UnderLock knew that eventually, the characteristics of porcelain would become a concern to specifiers and end-users, for when you place even thick porcelain on pedestals, if they did happen to break, the pieces become sharp shards and could cause more significant injury than a concrete or stone paver that simply cracks and buckles.  The other limitation that porcelain manufacturers did not foresee is the weight of their product.  At 3/4" thickness, the porcelain though extremely strong,  is considered light for pedestal installations on plaza decks and rooftops.  The pavers "need more weight" in order to resist the uplift forces of high winds.

In 2014 work began to modify the original UnderLock system to adapt to the new 2CM porcelain pavers.  Over the next 2 years, the product evolved.  The use of resins and composites applied by hand gave way to the proprietary machine process.

In October 2017, UnderLock received a US patent for their Full System (FS).  Now in its third generation, the UnderLock system is integrated into the paver with superior components.  Locking pavers together with UnderLock FS creates a "raft" thus solving the "need more weight" concern (you lift one, you lift them all). UnderLock FS solves the problems of paver safety and wind uplift in one factory-installed product.

UnderLock pavers arrive at the job site ready to install!  This saves time and money!!
